Seasons and Cycles

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” — Ecclesiastes

The end of summer on the northern hemisphere is a time of change and transitions. Families are preparing for a new year at school, summer is coming to a close, people move, teenagers begin college, relationships end or begin and there are A LOT OF NEW BEGINNINGS. I have often struggled with new beginnings because they are scary and the fear that arises from the unknown can trick you into believing life is bad.

The end of summer is a season of unknowns that can feel uncomfortable. Externally, we are changing the way we organize and structure our day, the time we wake up and the time we go to bed, the places we visit and the people we see.

Internally, there are changes as well. You may not see them, but you can feel the subtle shifts of energy. Maybe you want to be alone more, or you begin to see things in a different light. Perhaps your interests have shifted, and your energy is different. Sometimes a struggle we have been dealing with has reached its capacity and its time to face it.

Though we may experience the same external season (depending on what part of the planet you’re on) – individually we are experiencing different seasons of life. Some of us are starting over after job loss or divorce, others are growing families, some are feeling a strange discontent with their lives while others have taken the plunge on a new adventure.

One truth of life is that we are always changing and as it’s written in Ecclesiastes, the seasons or cycles are necessary and perhaps divinely orchestrated.
It is important to remember that there are different seasons and cycles of life. When you are happy and when we are struggling, when we are working hard and when we are resting. Each season/cycle/chapter has its place for a reason, and we cannot reap before sow nor can we sow before reap (I’m going biblical today lol).
Guiding Questions:
Take time to bring awareness to your external season and to your internal season of life.
1. What season are you in currently?
2. What new beginnings or endings are present?
3. Does it support you to remember there is a season to everything and that the seasons change with or without your awareness?
4. Does it support you to remember that each of us as a collective/community experience the seasons?
