Wondering What’s Next?

At the beginning of the new year people often feel a sense of pressure to know or figure out what’s next. It can be challenging to sit still in the unknowns and accept whatever emotion is present (frustration, confusion, judgment, deep rooted desires, etc).

Whether you know exactly what you want and have a carefully laid out plan or have no idea what you want or how to get there, know that there is nothing to figure out in your mind.

The mind will become more active during periods of uncertainty, transition and change. And we are ALWAYS experiencing change. Sometimes it is more obvious (during divorce, welcoming a baby, changing careers, moving across the country); while other times, we can’t actually see or feel the changes.

Rather, the changes are within our hearts and souls. We are yearning for something different, we long for an “inner” shift that will change our lives for the better. We want to be more of our true selves. We crave freedom and peace of mind.

It may not look like your life is changing in the moment, but during this period of quiet and uncertainty,  you are planting seeds. Seeds that will one day blossom. Seeds that will require nurturing and nourishment.

“Remember that what you have now was once among the things you only hoped for” – Epicurus

The seeds you plant are born from your dreams. They are constantly calling you, giving you little pinches and nudges to guide you back to yourself. They are in the people you admire, the stories that touch your heart and the moments of pure joy you experience.

And they are waiting for you to recognize them and plant them in deep, rich soil! If you have no idea what is next for you and are feeling overwhelmed by uncertainty, remember that your dreams for yourself are guiding you, they are whispering messages of possibility + there nothing to figure out in your mind.

Speaking of dreams – when I first started my coaching career, I dreamed of writing and confidently communicating my story with thousands of people. Here is my latest published post on Tiny Buddha – “How I Stopped Worrying All the Time and Started Feeling Good About Life.
