Who Is On Your Team?

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.” Marianne Williamson

Whether you realize it or not, we aren’t meant to “do” life alone. The dreams and vision we have for living a healthier and happier life don’t just happen. Take a moment to think about someone you admire. Someone who has achieved great things. Someone that you have probably thought, wow they are so talented!

In my last post, I wrote about Michael Jordan, taking him as an example or Oprah, Taylor Swift, Brene Brown, you name them – anyone that you have been “wowed by” and consider the amount of time (years) and the amount of support they required in order to get there.

Celebrities for instance, have teams of “up to hundreds” of people that allow them to be great. They don’t do it alone. They have mentors, financial advisors, friends, family, teachers, physical therapists, doctors, spouses, directors, coaches, experts, therapists, babysitters, investors, managers, housekeepers, agents, directors, writers, etc.

However, you don’t need to be a celebrity or have dreams of super stardom in order to ask for and receive support. You don’t need to necessarily want to achieve anything except for inner joy!  I have had the privilege of working with people I admired and was amazed to learn that they did not do it alone, they needed help and they invested in themselves in order to get there.

The moment my life began to change was the moment I began to reach out, share my story and let other people support me. I began to invest in myself. This is not weakness, this is strength. I learned so much about myself, I healed, I challenged myself in ways I couldn’t do alone. And my life today reflects all the support I have had.

Teams come in many shapes and sizes. It may be surprising that many of your team members are already here – this blog you are reading for example, if it supports you and allows you to see live differently than I am on your team – Your hair stylist, your babysitters, your neighbor that calls to tell you there’s a box on your front porch – these are seemingly small roles that support you to do the things you want and need to do for yourself. (breath this in for a moment – do you realize how much love and support you have right now?)

There are other team members, for instance, as a life coach, I am a key member of every one of my client’s teams. I support them in creating a life they deeply yearn for. They invested in themselves because they wanted more from life, and they received a solid team member that can guide them forward through the peaks, valleys, and roots of life.

I hear things from clients, like “I couldn’t have gotten through this year without you” – “I wish I could talk to you every day” – “I can’t believe how much has changed” – “I am glad I can see things differently now” – “My inner and outer world has changed.”

Investing in ourselves isn’t easy, it takes courage and vulnerability – a willingness to try something new and most importantly, the ability to see ourselves as not only capable of overcoming adversity but as GREAT – the truest version of ourselves.

Take some time now to consider who is on your team – from big roles to small, anyone or anything that allows you to grow and accomplish things and helps you to take care of yourself.
